Katon-Karagai state national natural Park was established in accordance with the Decree of the government of Kazakhstan № 970 of July 17, 2001. The Park has 643477 hectares and is the largest national Park of Kazakhstan. The purpose of creation of the national Park is preservation and restoration of unique natural complexes of the southern Altai, which have special ecological, scientific, cultural and recreational value. Katon-Karagay state national natural Park (KKSNNP) is located in the East Kazakhstan region in Katon-Karagay district. The territory of the national Park is located in the southern Altai, which is a mountainous country with numerous ridges, often rising above 3000 meters above sea level. The southern macro slopes of the ranges Listvyaga and Katunsky (southern and Eastern slopes of the Belukha mountain), the western part of the high plateau Ukok within Kazakhstan, the ridges of the southern Altai, Tarbagatai (Altai) and Sarymsakty. Location: East Kazakhstan region, Katon-Karagay district.Within the Katon-Karagai state national natural Park (KKSNNP) included: southern macroslopes of Listvyaga ranges and Katun (the southern and Eastern slopes of the unit, Beluga whale), the Western part of the highland plateau Ukok in Kazakhstan, the ridges South of Altai, the Tarbagatai (Altai) and Sarymsakty. The following Park boundaries have been established: In the North and East: bordered by Russia (Altai Republic); In the South-East: the border of the park passes through the territory of Katon-Karagay district; In the West: the border runs along the river Pharpusnaya (Shurshutsu) to Belkaragai (Medvedka) and Soldatova. In the South: boundary runs along the Northern slopes of mountain ranges of southern Altai: Sarymsakty, Altai Tarbagatai, on the border of Muz-Belski forest cottage Shingistaisky forestry and on the administrative border of Katon-Karagay and Kurchumski districts. Area – 643 744 ha. includes: Forest land-267 202 hectares including - wooded area-216 181 ha; Non-forest land-376 275 hectares including: - water-4 182 hectares; - swamps-4 440 ha; - glaciers - 1 503 hectares. Climatic conditions: The climate of the Alpine and mountain forest zone is very humid, moderately cold, sometimes very cold. In the Northern half of the zone for the year falls 550-560 mm of precipitation. In July maximum precipitation is well expressed. The average monthly wind speed for the year is 1.7 m / sec. The number of days with a strong wind for the year is 7, and with a dust storm — 10 days.
